Job Summary

The Engineering Director will report into the Regional CEO of Metroline Manchester on the day-to-day activities within the engineering function of the business. Work closely with operations and service delivery colleagues to provide sufficient vehicles to operate the contracted services, ensuring good financial control of budget, and alignment with group quality and safety requirements, focusing on efficiencies within the engineering team and systems, using data to drive decision making.

Main responsibilities

  • Ensuring compliance regarding the undertakings detailed in the company O Licence, as one of the two senior Transport managers on the licence (with Service Delivery Director) Responsible for all amendments, additions, and changes.
  • Identified as point of contact for the company O licence with both the local DVSA operation and the Office of the Traffic Commissioners in the North West.
  • Acting as the initial point of contact and interface with all vehicle and major component suppliers with regard to technical or vehicle support issues, liaising with the Metroline Technical team on common problems, campaigns, warranty issues, bulletins etc.
  • Working with the procurement team to coordinate the implementation of national and local technical support contracts and service agreements.
  • Maintaining an overview of all maintenance procedures and programmes within depot workshops.
  • Monitoring engineering standards and promoting engineering excellence.
  • Working with the Engineering management to deliver cost effective repairs and to highlight areas of change required to increase efficiency.
  • Oversee close financial control and ensure garage engineering outputs are achieved within Budget.
  • Responsible for monitoring the vehicle cleaning standards in line with TfGM standards along with depot premises, plant, tools and equipment to ensure these are kept at an appropriate standard commensurate with H&S requirements.
  • Working with HR and training providers to maintain staff levels and skills across all sites, recruit suitable trainees and develop links within the community to promote the benefits of Engineering trades.
  • Working with the Group Engineering Director for Metroline to ensure KPI & budget compliance with both the local Manchester market and the wider Group strategies and aims.
  • Working with the Financial & Commercial Director and Facilities manager, in all aspects of Metroline Manchester property portfolio including liaison with legal firms, landlords and other authorities as necessary to maintain operations at all sites and compliance with all legal and contractual arrangements as laid down under English Law.
  • Provide key assistance as required on all major property re-development and infrastructure matters.
  • Promote awareness and ensure the implementation of all mandatory Health, Safety and environmental procedures and legislation through training, mentoring and discipline.

Essential criteria

  • Hold an International/ National CPC;
  • Member of a recognised Industry body, such as IRTE/SOE
  • Have a proven track record in driving change and innovation within an engineering environment;
  • Has a good understanding of budget controls and cost management;
  • Understands the impact of KPIs and their relevance to the business;
  • Skilled in the use of IT systems, including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Hours of work

40 hours per week, Monday to Friday but must be flexible to work over and above these hours if deemed necessary.
