Job Summary

To undertake the training of new drivers into the organisation to the required PCV standard and carry out refresher training for new PCV licence holders into the business.

To conduct development training designed to support existing driver workforce helping them to become safer and greener drivers.

Main responsibilities

  • Delivering driver training to PCV standard whilst managing the day-to-day progress of trainees.
  • Supporting theory, hazard perception & case study training as required.
  • CPC Module 4 training to test standard.
  • Vehicle checking and defect reporting as well as type training.
  • Introduction to depots & bus stations.
  • Completion of all progress reports and associated paperwork including C&G;
  • Coaching trainees in the soft skills that support technical standards.
  • Completing development, refresher or referral training with existing bus drivers as required.
  • Completing reintegration sessions with employees who have been away from the business long term and support them back into driving.
  • Supporting with Pre-Employment Assessments (PEAs) and classroom work where required.
  • Communicating company policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the Health and Safety of all employees.

Essential criteria

Internal applicants:

  • Applicants must have at least 12 months continuous employment with Metroline / Stagecoach
  • No more than 3 points on their licence
  • Have an exceptional incident and customer service record.

External candidates:

  • Have a minimum of 12 months experience of driving a bus.
  • Have a clean driving licence.

Competencies & skills

  • Excellent written and spoken English with the ability to communicate clearly and at all levels.
  • A thorough knowledge of the Highway Code and PCV legislation.
  • A committed, positive approach to encourage and support new and existing members of staff.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to appropriately deliver effective, timely and direct feedback, whilst demonstrating a willingness to embrace any feedback received.
  • Must be a team player and willing to develop others to increase team and individual performance.
  • Must be flexible.

Hours of work

38 hours per week working Monday to Friday.  Hours will involve shiftwork between 06:00 & 22:00 and there will be a requirement to work the occasional weekend on a rota basis.  There may also be times that there is a need to work outside of the usual hours of operation in line with the needs of the business.
