To manage the garage stores in an effective manner, ensuring that an adequate, but not excessive, supply of parts and materials is stocked to meet the garage’s engineering needs.  Complying at all times with health and safety legislation and Metroline’s policy statement on health and safety. To ensure that a rapid response is made to requests for stock issues from garages.

Main Responsibilities



  • The maintenance of adequate supplies of spares consumable items and lubricants in an organised store and the control of garage fuel stocks and deliveries;
  • The assessment of usage trends and establishment of optimum stock levels;
  • The maintenance of proper stock records including inter alia the proper recording of all orders receipts and issues;
  • The physical control and security of stocks including reporting and investigating instances of physical stock shortfalls, abnormal usage and abuse;
  • Functional responsibility for and provision of advice to garage engineers (line responsibility for the garage stores resides with the Garage Maintenance Manager);
  • Liaison with the Senior Stores Manager on the maintenance and development of supplier contracts in order to maintain supplies of sufficient quantity and quality;
  • Liaison with Technical and Purchasing staff to pursue warranty claims and resolve other quality issues;
  • To ensure all activities within the garage store comply with relevant legislation including the 1974 Health & Safety at Work Act and the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Act 1989;
  • To be familiar with and ensure compliance with TfL and Metroline’s policy statement on Health & Safety.

Essential Criteria

  • Thorough knowledge of stores procedures and demonstrable experience of running a materials stores with full responsibility for its smooth operation;
  • A clear appreciation of the consequences of “stockouts” in an internal engineering stores to the smooth running of the business;
  • Previous exposure to computerised stock control systems and be competent in their application;
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the 1974 Health & Safety at Work Act and the control of substances hazardous to Health Act 1989;
  • Excellent administrative skills including good working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Office and Excel;
  • Full UK Driving Licence;
  • Valid Fork Lift Truck Licence;

  • An understanding/appreciation of the service requirements and the management of day to day operational issues;

Hours of work

38 hours per week, Monday to Friday
