Job summary

The Shift fitter will be the focal point in the garages for technical issues and diagnostic problems. He/she will be responsible for diagnostics/ repairs and advice on engines, gearboxes, axles and electrical faults including body systems. And will be qualified to a minimum of NVQ3 standard with strong IT and writing / communication skills. He/she must be adaptable and willing to attend other depots when and where required to support the Engineering Department.

Main Responsibilities




  • To be the first point of contact for in-depth engineering fault finding and repairs on specific vehicle types;
  • Carry out diagnostic tests on a wide range of company vehicles and equipment; ;
  • Advise the Engineering Manager on technical issues within the garage;
  • To develop and foster good working relationships with engineers and other grades;
  • To develop and maintain effective communication and relationships with chassis and body manufacturers, DVSA & FTA
  • To ensure that all records and paperwork are kept up to date and be a champion for the FMS system; The duties listed above are not exhaustive

Essential Criteria


  • Minimum NVQ3 or equivalent with relevant experience.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of diagnostic equipment and its applications.
  • Have an in depth technical knowledge of major components fitted to Company fleet.
  • Skilled in the use of IT systems, including Excel, Word,
  • Have a full understanding/appreciation of the terms and condition of the Company O Licence.
  • Willing to adapt and update skills and attend training courses.

Hours of work

Will be required to work a range of shifts in line with the particular needs of the workshop

  • The working week runs from Sunday to Saturday and comprises of 40 hours; shift is either morning or afternoons Rest days will be rostered each week. Rosters will include some weekend and Bank Holiday working

Rate of Pay

£30660 pa
