To supervise the compilation of efficient and effective Schedules, both for Tendering requirements and Operational purposes, taking into account Safety, Reliability, Acceptability and Cost.  

To liaise and negotiate with Garage Management, Garage Trades Union and Transport for London staff concerning the implementation of Final Operational Schedules.

Main Responsibilities



  • To maintain a full knowledge of current Operating and Scheduling Agreements;
  • To maintain a full knowledge of the Law relating to Domestic Drivers Hours regulations (where different from the Company Scheduling Agreement) and European Drivers Hours Regulations;
  • To maintain a full knowledge of the Company’s operating area, particularly with regard to Garage and relief point locations;
  • To maintain a full knowledge of the London Schedules System (or any other Scheduling System used by the Company), and to be able to “trouble-shoot” for other members of the Team when necessary;
  • To understand the importance of the Working Time Directive with regard to Domestic Drivers Hours;
  • To maintain databases summarising output from the Schedules department;
  • To formulate programmes of work, to specified deadlines that utilise the Schedules team effectively and efficiently;
  • To ensure that other members of the Section are utilised in the most productive way possible; especially considering strengths and weaknesses, and to train, guide and assist team members as necessary;
  • To encourage Compilers to search for innovative solutions to scheduling problems;
  • To compile schedules to the standards expected of Schedule Compilers as may be required to meet specific deadlines;
  • To manage the interface between the Schedules System and other computer programs that may be required;
  • To provide information/data regarding schedules as required;
  • To work with the Service Delivery team and Garage management to compile schedules which continue to meet the prevailing and forecast operational requirements;
  • To assist and deputise for the Head of Planning and Tendering as required;
  • To assist other members of the Section from time to time in preparing and dispatching Final Schedules, both paper-based and electronic;
  • To be able to use the Laminating Machine correctly and safely for the purpose of preparing Duty Cards and other scheduling items that are required;
  • To be prepared to undertake on-bus surveys from time to time as required;
  • To undertake any general office-related duties from time to time as required.

Essential Criteria

  • Comprehensive geographical knowledge of Greater London, especially Metroline’s existing operating area and garage locations;
  • Understanding of tendering and contractual procedures;
  • Understanding of financial and costing procedures;
  • Knowledge of Union agreements and the Law relating to Domestic Driving Hours Regulations.

  • Must be a team player and willing to develop others to increase team and individual performance.

Hours of work

38 hours per week, Monday to Friday
