Job summary

Responsible for overseeing and facilitating the smooth running of the commercial services (including rail replacement and other special services) and reporting any issues to the Garage Manager. Leading the team of commercial drivers and other team members.

Main Responsibilities

 

 

  • To provide an efficient, regular and high quality service by supervising services and staff, utilising telematics systems as appropriate, monitoring traffic conditions and timekeeping, and implementing actions to maintain reliability and punctuality of service, working to key performance indicators;
  • To ensure that all relevant information relating to service operation is communicated to colleagues, passengers and other relevant parties including local authorities, schools and employers;
  • To develop a good working relationship with Managers, Supervisors, Drivers, Engineers and support staff;
  • To investigate complaints and deviations from service standards and take appropriate action, escalating issues as required for disciplinary or other action;
  • To engage with head office schedules and other staff as required to achieve the effective and efficient scheduling and promotion of services, including input to commercial developments, the management of the ticketing and telematics systems and the distribution of publicity material;
  • To represent Company’s interests when attending emergencies, i.e. accidents, diversions and security alerts;
  • To represent Company’s interests when dealing with members of the public in any company related matter;
  • To ensure that Company policies and procedures are complied with, especially in areas concerning the health and safety of staff and others;
  • The post holder will be expected to conduct themselves in manner appropriate to the role at all times.

Essential Criteria

  • Demonstrable supervisory experience in transport or another fast paced, customer facing environment;
  • Certificate of Professional Competence (or willing to work towards);
  • PC literate and able to be trained on the company’s control and revenue management systems.
  • Able to work on a shift basis, covering, weekends, bank holidays and occasional overtime dependent on the needs of the business (essential);
  • Located within commutable distance from the garage location;
  • Experience of passenger transport (desirable);
  • Fluency in spoken and written English (essential)

Competencies & Skills

  • An understanding/appreciation of the service requirements and the management of day to day operational issues;
  • Written and oral communication skills;
  • Basic knowledge of word processing, spread sheets and email;
  • Ability to work as part of a team and work well under pressure;
  • Ability to develop and maintain good relations with others;
  • Fully conversant with the rules and regulations for Drivers;
  • Ability to encourage, coach and guide Drivers to achieve the standards and levels of performance expected by the Company.
  • Must be proactive, methodical and results orientated;
  • Exceptional customer service skills with a natural flair of providing support and guidance and going ‘the extra mile’;
  • Ability to use initiative and identify solutions when a problem or difficult situation arises;
  • Must be able to demonstrate credibility to build professional relationships with both employees and managers;
  • Able to build lasting working relationships with internal and external stakeholders/suppliers;
  • Must be a team player and willing to develop others to increase team and individual performance.
