Job summary

The Electric Bus Manager will be responsible for project managing the electric buses and ensuring maximum coverage or mileage is achieved through using these vehicles. To control the activities of the operational and administrative staff to ensure the delivery of its performance is line with the company’s objective.

Main Responsibilities

 

 

  • Ensure that appropriate health and safety standards are maintained (PPE, signage, contractor inductions) within their area of responsibility and conducts regular risk assessment
  • Work with the night/day staff and cleaning contractors, conducting a series of emergency plans to deal with scenarios such as power failure, equipment failure, electrical fire or any other incident that could affect vehicle availability or charging processes.
  • Carry out various ad hoc tasks, projects and additional duties as required by the business
  • Ensuring legal and contractual compliance with the garage in line with prevailing objectives and prevailing legislation
  • Deploying resources within the garage focusing on their area of responsibility to achieve maximum level of performance that is efficient, cost effective and sustainable.
  • Proactively manages/oversees changing times (Night time tariffs) correct discharge of  battery usage and ensure management of battery life is correctly utilised
  • Main contact for current and future liaisons with BYD/Optare/TFL/Electricity companies.
  • Works closely with the Engineering Managers with regards to maintenance of these buses/warranty issues
  • Closely monitors cleaning contractors to ensure staff are fully trained to handle charging equipment, hold the relevant PCV licence and adhere to company protocols
  • Periodic review of security of assets and use of equipment
  • Main contact for companywide night operation
  • Data gathering of total mileage covered by vehicles, total service mileage operated by vehicles, power usage by bus type, breakdown of charging costs and profile checks of vehicles
  • Incident investigation and main contact for HSE (only involving electric buses)

Essential & Desirable Criteria

  • Hold a valid CPC licence
  • Experience of managing performance and setting targets
  • Demonstrable experience of working as a manager or supervisor, supporting members of staff and the delivery of service.
  • Demonstrable experience of budget management
  • Experience of working in an unionised environment
  • First aid qualified
  • An understanding of geographical routes and garages is desirable

Hours of work

The job will involve working shifts which can be scheduled anytime during the operational day. Shifts are rostered on a five day, 38 hour week basis, which will includes weekends.
