Job summary

The Auto Electrician will report directly to their appointed Engineering Manager or in his/her absence the Assistant Engineering Manager and will be responsible for providing electrical engineering support to Garage Engineering Team. This will involve all aspects of vehicle electrical engineering required to support the Engineering Manager, and to assist to facilitate the smooth day to day running of the garage. 

Main Responsibilities



  • Ensuring that the Company O Licence is protected at all times.
  • Completing electrical repairs to the best of your ability.
  • Working in a safe manner in accordance with Metroline Health & Safety directives.
  • Dealing with electrical faults as directed by the manager.
  • Diagnosing electrical faults using appropriate fault diagnosis equipment.
  • Entering details of fault diagnosis onto the Fleet Management System.
  • Entering details of vehicle faults and creating job cards onto the Fleet Management System.
  • Assisting Metroline engineers with electrical issues.
  • Notifying manager of any additional information on faults and repairs that are required.
  • Completion of the wheel nut check book when required.
  • Reporting in detail any technical issues that arise to the Technical Manager.
  • Reading and understanding and actioning Technical Bulletins where issued.
  • Following procedures described in the company Quality Manual.
  • Attending internal and external training courses where required.
  • Identifying spares required and ensuring they are ordered on time.
  • Acting promptly on issues raised by operations staff.
  • Developing a sound working relationship with drivers, operations staff and communicate well with other engineers and managers.
  • Supports the AEM or EM when either are on leave or absent.


Essential Criteria

  • A sound working knowledge of vehicle electrical systems

Hours of work

38 hours per week, shift work
