Job summary

The Assistant Accountant - Data Analyst will assist the Financial Analysis & Planning Manager with the day to day tasks in connection with recording and reporting financial and operational performance, covering revenue and costs analysis, general month end accounting work and other ad-hoc work as required. The position will offer the opportunity to develop deep data analysis skills as well as all round accounting skills and will be pivotal to the efficient functioning of the processes within the above mentioned scope of the business. 

 

Main Responsibilities

 

 

Data Analysis

  • Working with financial and operational systems to collate, report and interrogate data
  • Construction of reports and analysis to aid business understanding of performance
  • Reporting Writing and construction of reports utilising existing toolkit (Qlik View)
  • Supporting maintenance and development of applications and scorecards enabling the availability of real-time reporting to management

Business Planning

  • Supporting Financial Planning & Analysis Manager with Budgeting and Forecast processes
  • Co-ordinating across systems to create consistent reporting of actual, budgets and forecast   

General Accounting

  • Monthly cost allocations 
  • Preparation of various monthly cost accruals and prepayment Journals
  • Preparation of various reporting packs with the requirements of the business.
  • Entering data on the Oracle accounting system as and when required.
  • Covering a range of accounting functions such as Fixed Assets, Fuel, Stock, Revenue Accounting, Operating Expenses, Treasury, Accounts Payable and
  • Receivable, Payroll and Treasury
  • Ensuring Controls are maintained at all times and maintaining integrity of the numbers being produced
  • Supporting the Preparation of the monthly management accounts variance analysis and reports ensuring that the board and management has a full understanding of  the company performance

 

Essential Criteria

  • Minimum of 12 months experience working within a finance or data team.
  • Graduate
  • Accounting Qualification or currently Studying for same (possibly)
  • Exposure to data analysis and reporting tools

Competencies & Skills

  • Exposure to Oracle accounting system desirable.
  • Strong systems understanding, particularly excel, SQL, and reporting tools (Qlik View)
  • Ability to plan and organise work to meet deadlines
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt skills to the task in question.
  • Multi-task
  • Ability to think creatively and be proactive in making progress
  • Be a good team player and show a willingness to try new tasks and help out other team members as and when required.
  • Tenacity to follow through on requirements and obstacles to get to the root cause of performance
