Metroline Bus Driver comes to baby’s rescue

~ Metroline Bus Driver comes to baby’s rescue ~

Metroline Bus Driver Lee Dwyer was at the centre of a dramatic incident on Tuesday 28th November. He was driving the 134 bus into Camden Road at lunchtime when a female passenger started screaming for help. Lee pulled into the bus stop and rushed to the passenger's aid to find that her three month old baby boy appeared to have stopped breathing.

He immediately ran back to his cab and called for an ambulance via the emergency radio facility. He then asked all the other passengers to leave the bus and hurried back to attend to the baby, whose mother was panic-stricken. Lee could see that the child had an extremely high temperature, so he unwrapped him from his blankets and opened the bus doors. The shock of the cold air seemed to revive the boy and he started to breath again. A response car and an ambulance then arrived and took him to hospital.

The paramedics commended Lee for his quick thinking and calm manner. The child was due to be kept under observation but was expected to make a full recovery.

Metroline's Chief Operating officer, Sean O'Shea, said "Lee did something amazing on Tuesday and I am very proud of his actions. Lee is a credit to his garage, the company and to the London Bus Industry."

37 year old Lee from Muswell Hill has been driving for Metroline for two years and is himself a proud father of two boys. After the incident, onlookers crowded round to shake his hand and praise him for his actions - although he's a modest hero! He said, "Afterwards it really hit me what had happened but at the time I just went into autopilot and did what I had to do". He now hopes his future shifts will be less eventful!
