~ Metroline raises £20,500
for Tsunami relief ~
Drivers and support staff
of ComfortDelGro subsidiary, Metroline have joined
in efforts to aid the millions of Tsunami victims in
South East Asia and raised £20,500.
Staff and
drivers of Metroline – dug into their
hearts and pockets to raise approximately £13,000
in donations. Metroline subsequently topped this off
by another £7,500, bringing total funds raised
to £20,500.
The many fundraising
initiatives at Metroline included Kings Cross Garage
driver Paul Baker
and Head Office
Schedule Compiler Brian Bell. They both volunteered
to crew a duplicate Routemaster bus on route 84 to
St Albans on Sunday 9th January.
There was also a special
bus enthusiast's event in St Albans on this date,
with old buses running on free
local services. The Metroline 1949 built 'roofbox'
Regent Type (RT) bus seemed to be the star attraction,
and many of the bus fans, as well as the regular
route 84 passengers, thoroughly enjoyed a chance to
step
back in time. A total of £392
was taken in fares and donations. Enthusiasts on board
at the end of the
day insisted
in rounding this up to £400.
Brian said: "We
were overwhelmed by the generous and kind support of
the public. It's shocking to hear
of the Tsunami tragedy as it has affected so many families
all over the world. Many people in Metroline are all
doing their bit to support the relief effort. There
are donation pots in all the garages and offices, and
a special fund where staff can opt for money to be
deducted from their wages or salaries. Every little
bit helps.”-ENDS-
