Metroline Bus Driver retires after 45 years service
On Wednesday 20th December, one of London's longest serving bus drivers is due to retire after an incredible 45 years. Metroline driver Garfield Harris came to the UK from Barbados in October 1961. He was employed by London Transport through their Direct Recruitment scheme in the Caribbean. This was set up due to a national labour shortage after World War Two; the scheme was highly successful and Transport for London recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. [more] |

Industrial Action Averted
Metroline bosses are delighted to announce that tomorrow's (Monday 27th) London bus strike has been averted.
On Friday, drivers had voted to reject the company's revised offer which meant that another 24-hour strike would have taken place on Monday hitting routes throughout north and central London and parts of Hertfordshire.
But the company held further talks with the T&GWU over the weekend and today announced that a further revised offer will be put to staff early next week.
Metroline's Chief Operating Officer Sean O'Shea said: "We're absolutely delighted that Monday's action has been averted."
"We're happy with the deal that the T&GWU will now take to our workforce, and we hope the situation will be resolved to everyone's satisfaction very soon." |

Industrial Action Monday 20th November 2006
Metroline's talks at ACAS with the T&GWU failed yesterday (Friday) despite the company putting a substantially improved offer on the table.
Metroline increased our offer from 4% to 5% and presented to the T&GWU as a way of averting the strike action scheduled for Monday 20th November. The company is extremely disappointed that this revised offer was rejected. The company also requested that strike action on the 20th November was postponed pending a vote by our staff. The T&GWU rejected this request and means that bus services operated by Metroline will be disrupted.
