~ 'Legendary' bus driver named London Customer Service Champion of the Year at the UK Bus Awards ~
On Wednesday 7th November, Metroline driver Ahmed Serhani won the Transport for London Customer Service Champion of the Year at the UK Bus Awards.
The award is given to an individual or team deemed by TfL to have "consistently delivered spectacular customer service to bus users".
Metroline bosses were not surprised when Mr Serhani, a driver on the 274 route, made it to the shortlist. Passengers regularly send letters of praise to the Head Office, the Kings Cross bus garage where Ahmed is based, and directly to Transport for London. And he's sure to be a popular winner - his local newspaper, the Islington Gazette, recently ran a feature on him in which he was described as "a legendary figure". Ahmed has also earned the nickname "London's friendliest bus driver", and is well-known for handing round a box of chocolates to cheer up his passengers!
Ahmed's success also marks an astonishing achievement for Metroline as it is the third consecutive year that the winner has been an employee of the company. In 2005, driver Mark Knowles took home the trophy for his courageous actions when one of his passengers was attacked, and last year the team of Metroline Night Bus Supervisors won thanks to their consistently high standards while providing night bus services to the capital.
Sean O'Shea, Chief Operating Officer of Metroline, said, "I am absolutely delighted with Metroline's third win in a row of the TfL Customer Service Champion award at this year's UK Bus Awards. Ahmed is a deserved winner of this award demonstrating a day-in day-out enthusiasm for delivering great customer service which has been duly recognised by TfL."
